summer figure skating programs

Our summer figure skating program offers an a la carte style of training that allows skaters to choose classes, sessions, and instruction to best suit their needs and goals.

Our programs are offered on a weekly basis. Skaters can choose to stay from one week to all ten weeks of the summer. Sessions are purchased by the week (Monday-Saturday). As you do not have to choose specific times and we realize that one day the skater might be too tired or not feel well, the sessions will not expire until Sunday. Additional walk on sessions are also available and may be purchased at the Box Office upon arrival.

Please check the calendar for start dates as well as shortened weeks.

Before You Arrive

Lake Placid is a popular destination -, especially in the summer! Make sure to reserve your housing as soon as you decide on the dates you would like to attend.

While it is not a requirement, most skaters work with a private coach while they are here. You can find a list of coaches by clicking here. All of our coaches are independent contractors, so coaching arrangements should be made directly with the coach. If you aren’t sure who to work with, we recommend first asking your current coach at home. However, you can always contact us with any questions!

Online Registration
You must pre-register online for the weeks that you will be skating. At this time, you are only registering for the number of sessions that you will be doing that week. You do not have to register for specific times. Sessions are NOT classes. Sessions are times to practice or times that you can work with a private coach. If you aren’t sure how many you would like to do per week, we recommend going with the lesser option. You can always purchase punch cards for additional ice when you are here, however, you will not be refunded for unused sessions.

Please register at least TWO WEEKS prior to your first week so that we have everything ready for you when you get here and so that you receive the informational e-mail approximately one week prior to your arrival.

On-site registrations are subject to an on-site registration late fee.

While You're Here

Sunday Registration
On Sundays between 3 pm and 5 pm, you can pick up your ID card which will be used to get on each of your sessions and the group class schedule. If you aren’t able to make it during that time, you can pick everything up in the arena office before your first session.

Ice Sessions
All sessions are 50 minutes in length and divided by freestyle level. The majority of sessions will take place on the 1932 Rink, although make sure to check the ice schedule upon arrival for additional sessions in other rinks – especially over the weekends.

Group Classes
On-ice and off-ice group classes are offered Mondays through Fridays. You do not have to pre-register for these classes, simply purchase a ticket for them at the Box Office before the class. A tentative schedule of classes will be e-mailed to you approximately one week prior to your arrival. A final class schedule will be available at Sunday registration.

On-ice classes are 25 minutes in length while off-ice classes are 45 minutes. All classes are $13 per class.

Test Sessions
We offer three U.S. Figure Skating test sessions for all levels throughout the summer. Please check the calendar for dates. Applications are available on the registration page of this site

Freaky Fridays are fun, entertainment-only competitions where skaters get to show off their creativity and style. A panel of “local celebrity” judges will evaluate skaters not on jumps and spins, but rather on creativity and enjoyment. This is a great chance for the skaters to get loose, get in front of an audience and show off how fun skating really is. Skaters can do a solo number or find a few friends and perform as a group! It’s not the final score that counts, but that the skaters get out on the ice and enjoy themselves.

Perhaps the most famous Lake Placid Skating tradition, the Saturday Night Ice Show dates back to the summer of 1932 and the legendary Gus Lussi. During their stay in Lake Placid, skaters have the opportunity to perform a solo program under the spotlights in the 1932 Rink – Jack Shea Arena for an audience of tourists, local community members, other skaters, and parents. There is also a group number/finale that skaters of all levels have the opportunity to skate in. In addition, we invite nationally and internationally ranked guest skaters to perform in the show. Some of our guest skaters have included Ryan Bradley, Mirai Nagasu, ice dancers Madison Hubbell & Zachary Donohue and pairs skaters Ashley Cain & Tim LeDuc. There are always special autograph and photo opportunities for our summer skaters to meet the special guest skaters.

Please check the calendar for show dates.
