Making Olympic Sports Accessible to the North Country Youth

Attention all Lake Placid Middle School students & parents! We all know that Lake Placid is home to some of the world’s leading Olympic facilities, but the youth of the North Country regularly have difficulties participating in these exciting activities. Additionally, in 2017, the CDC reported that only 47% of teens are physically active and 32% had reported symptoms of depression. Therefore, ORDA is piloting the Jump, Aim, Glide & Slide (JAGS) Program to help the North Country Youth experience all the wonders and Olympic spirit Lake Placid has to offer while providing a safe space for teens to learn and grow. ORDA envisions pilot program growth through the schools and we are very interested in building strong partnerships with schools within the region for years to come.

With this program, youth throughout the North Country have the opportunity to participate in winter Olympic sports such as bobsledding, cross country skiing, speed skating, and more! They’ll also receive professional coaching from world-class athletes, coaches and experts who excite and inspire teens each time they step out on to the snow or ice. Other opportunities include competing as well as volunteering. Sign up today to help your kid take their first steps into the world of winter Olympic sports.
